Extensive Reading Individual Reflection

 At the beginning of the semester, my opinion about reading was “analyze”. My reason: Because reading is activities to reveal the meaning of a text, science, ideas, asses something or evaluate, and conclude what is being reading. At that time, I have some problems. The worst problem is I’ve never read much before, especially read in English language. That make me argued that reading is complicated. But slowly I started to adjust.

In the middle of the semester, I managed to get the benefits and enjoyment of reading. Everything I got when I read a lot on ER-Central. At first, I’m little troubled with the new words that appears in the story that I read. But that’s the benefit. I can see and learn lots of new words. I get more challenge when reading on English e-Reader. The story is longer than story on ER Central. My strategy to overcome it is, I look at each story title that I like or that I find   interesting. And it works. Because when I read according to my strategy, I can understand the story well.

                                                

    

On Extensive reading class, I also get a lot of assignment. At first, I thought the assignments are like a regular report. But then, I can fell the most exciting part of the assignment. It’s imagination. On every task, I have to read a story then I imagine. The imagination is always different in each task. That’s what makes me enjoy reading or doing assignment. Some of the assignments that I like best are, special gift, a different ending, and project about an interview.

I am happy, because I don’t have many problems while doing assignment. I can understand the assignment well. Plus, there are always guidelines for doing assignments. That’s really help me, and I hope there will always a guideline for the next semester’s assignments.

In the future, I will improve reading on ER Central or English e-Reader. I will read more, and try to rad at a higher level. Because reading i am not only learning, but it can increasing my knowledge.

 

  

 

An Interview With

 

Hay every one, welcome back to my blog. Now I will show you my experience reading on English e-Reader. This time I got an assignment that must be work with a partner. The project name is “An interview with”. Me and my partner will choose one story on English e-Reader, then we will choose each one a different character from the story. Next, we will make an interview about the main problem from the character of the story that we have read. Enjoy…..

We have read story entitled Amazon Rally by Amos Eduardo. This story has 1.436 words from 6 pages. This story is contained in A2 elementary level on English e-Reader.

This story tells about two man named David and Brian that want to enter the race which is called Amazon Rally. When the race is almost starting, Brian got a problem. His motorcycle had an oil leak. David gives Brian some glue and Brian use it to cover the leaking oil. The race is start, and both fight with other racers. In the middle of race, David and Brian meet with Indian tribes. Then, the Indian took both to their village. In the Indian’s village, David and Brian meet with Astrid from German.  She’s working there with the Indians. Then Astrid tells them why the Indians took them to their village. Because the Indians not likes the miners. They though David and Brian are the miners, so the Indians took them to their village. David asks to Astrid, why they are not likes the miners. Astrid answered, the miners wants the Indians place and sometimes, they come and kill the Indians. Knowing that things, Brian hurried go to the police station at Una-Una with Caruak as a guide to Una-Una. They managed to go to the police station. Then the police go to the Indians place and managed prevented the miner’s action. After that, Maoni as the Indian chairman, give gifts to David and Brian as well as nicknames to them. Then, David and Brian continued the race and finished it with defeat.

I’m happy with this project, because I interviewed as if I were the reporter TV. Me and my partner had a little trouble when we record our interview. It’s a funny experience.

Hay everyone, welcome back to my blog. Now I will show you my experience reading on English e-Reader. This time I will write a blurb based on the story that I have read. Have enjoy……

I have read book entitled The Mummy by David Levithan. This story has 6.505 words from 28 pages. This story contained in pre-intermediate level.

This story tells about a High Priest of the Dead named Imhotep. He was punished for having an affair with Pharaoh’s wife named Anck-Su-Namun. When they got caught, Anck-Su-Namun stabbed herself with hope Imhotep would bring her back to live. Imhotep love’s for Anck-Su-Namun is enormous. Then Imhotep bring The Book of the Dead that can rise a person to rise up Anck-Su-Namun.  But in the middle of his ritual, Imhotep get caught by The Med-Jai shoulders. Then imhotep was punished to be a mummy cruelly. No body can bring Imhotep and Anck-Su-Namun back to the world of the living or he will make everybody in the world his mummies. Just in case, The Med-Jai shoulders will guard Imhotep’s grave in a manner hereditary.

3.215 years letter, many humans research and look for jewelry in the city of death. But they are research to close with Imhotep’s grave, and accidentally raised Imhotep up. Then the peoples looking for a way to return Imhotep to the realm of the death and they managed.

The main characters in this story is, O’ Connell, Evelyn, Jonathan, Beni, Imhotep, and Anck-Su-Namun.

Hello every one, welcome back to my blog. Now I will show you my experience reading on English e-Reader. This time I will choose one scene in the story that I have read and I will draw that scene. Next, I will give my reason why I choose the scene and explain about the picture. Enjoy…….

I have read story entitled Mr. Bean in Town by Richard Curtis. This story has 4.246 words from pages. This story contained in level B1 pre-intermediate level.

The first part of the story tells about one man named Mr. Bean who is having a birthday and he thinking to make his important day is happy. After thinking he decided to go to restaurant for dinner at evening. Many things experienced by Mr. Bean at the restaurant. Much of it is dissatisfaction. But with his genius and the crazy things he does, he managed to solve his every problem experienced at the restaurant.

The second part the story tells about Mr. Bean that want to wash his clothes in the laundry. And again Mr. Bean cannot free from problem. Even this time crazier than when he was in the restaurant. But this is Mr. Bean, he always has a way and a wat out of every problem. He always takes risks and do crazy things to solve his problem.

My favorite scene is, when Mr. Bean pretended to drink his coffee which actually is conditioner. I choose this scene because I think this is the most reckless that Mr. Bean do. Just so he wouldn’t be suspected he is willing to drink the conditioner. Its crazy thing but funny.

This is my drawing result when Mr. Bean drink the conditioner. I draw it with strange face because I imagine his face when he drinking the conditioner.

 

 

DEAR AGONY AUNT

 

Hay everyone, now I will tell you my experience reading on English e-reader. This time I will choose one character from the story that I read and thinking the character main problem. Then I will imagine if I’m is the character and I will write a letter to telling about my problem to a famous person.

I have read story entitled the Earthquake by Elizabeth Laird. This time I choose level B1 pre-intermediate. This story has 4.949 words from 21 pages.

My letter:

Dear Mr. Habibie

I hope you have some free time before reading this letter, because it’s about my personal problem. I really love the girl named Silvia. I think she is a beautiful girl ever I see. But there is a handsome and rich man named Marco who also liked her. Every time I go to Silvia’s house, she will act weird like she doesn’t like me. Especially if Marco is at her house. What should I do? Please help me with some advice from you.

Gabriel

I think Gabriel need to ask his problem to Mr. Habibie. Of course, Mr. Habibie is not stranger with Indonesia people. Because he is Indonesia’s third president. Besides the president he is also famous for his love life story with his wife Mrs. Ainun. So, I think the problem of love that is experience by Gabriel can be overcome with the experience love of Mr. Habibie.

 

 

A different ending

 

Hello everyone, now I will show you my experience reading on English e-Reader. This time I will imagine different ending in the story that I have read.

I have read story entitled Halloween horror. The author is Clemen D. B. Gina. This story has 3.962 words from 19 pages. I read this story at level A1 starter.

This story tells about five student named Kelly, Megan, Susan, Nick, and Bill who want to have a Halloween party. First of all, they make a plan about the Halloween party. A student named Bill found one old house which is close to the forest. They don’t now if that old house is the witch’s house. Then they go to the old house, their friend named Susan is the first to know that it is a witch’s house. She tells to them, but Bill still want to make the party at that house because according to him, it is the perfect place to make the Halloween party. They continued with their plans, and immediately clean it up. They also decorated the house with a Halloween theme.

It’s time for the Halloween party. They also invited some of their schoolmates. Their wearing scary clothes. Their friend named Kelly wearing dress like a witch named Abigail cross. The party is lively and festive. Some students dance, eat, and laugh.  Then they play a game called treasure hunt. Everyone has different maps. Kelly get a share in the basement. She looks inside a big barrel.  Suddenly an old lady standing by the barrel. Evidently the old lady is the witch named Abigail cross, and the she says, on this night we spirit look for young bodies. When we find a young body, we can live again. At midnight my spirit enters your body. You must die so that I can live. Then the witch makes Kelly sleep and put her in to the barrel. She takes off Kelly’s mask and wig too.

When almost midnight, the students want to see behind every mask they wear. Every student takes off their mask when asked. Until they ask ‘how is the old lady’, then the witch open the mask. They all get scared and panic when they see the face behind the old lady mask. They want get out, but another witch spirit is outside and blocking them. Then Bill look for Kelly on the basement. He looks in all the barrels. Finally, he sees Kelly who is sleeping in the barrel. But one candle fall on the table and the fire is spreading. All the students are scared, because they can’t open the door. Its two minutes to midnight. Suddenly the fire burn Abigail’s portrait at the house. They are shocked because Abigail Cross and the witch spirits are burning. Then the door is opening and all of the students runs outside. The fire destroys the house and the evil ghost inside. Finally, they go back to their own house. In the morning Kelly wake up and go to the bathroom. She shocked, when she looking in the mirror. A red mark around her neck and she hear a mysterious voice in the mirror says, “When you play with fire, Kelly, you burn your fingers!”.

Now I will make the end of the story according to my imagination.

Finally, they can get out. But Kelly still not aware. So, Megan, Susan, Nick, and Bill take her to the hospital. Megan and Susan cry, when they arrived at the hospital. “I’m so sorry”, Bill say. “This will not happen if we don’t follow your stupid idea!”, says Megan while cry. “But right now, Kelly is in the hospital, so don’t worry everything will be fine”, says Nick. “We have been trough all of this and I hope no quarrels between us”, added Nick. They are sad and panic. After 7 hours, Kelly wake up. “Kelly is wake up”, says Susan when she sees Kelly’s eyes open. Then Kelly say “where are me?”. Megan answer while happy “you in the hospital, my sister”. Then Kelly look at them and say “Who are you?”. They all get shocked when they hear what Kelly says.

Hay everyone now I will show you my experience reading on English e Reader. Now I will read one story than I will choose a suitable song for the story.

I have read story on English e Reader entitled Muhammad Ali and the author is B. Smith. I choose level starter to read this story. This story has 3.375 words from 10 pages.

This story is telling about a famous boxer named Muhammad Ali. This story tells about the beginning of the journey of Muhammad Ali in his boxing career. The real name of Muhammad Ali is Cassius Clay. Initially Cassius Clay can’t box, he just a normal kid. One day Cassius lost his bike and he went to report to the police who were in a gym. Without him knowing it the policeman is also a boxing trainer. The policeman saw Cassius’s physique was perfect for a boxer. Then the policeman invited Cassius to train him boxing. Then Cassius became a boxer. He has many challenge’s in his career, both in and outside the ring. But he never gives up and he managed to become the world champion of boxing.

After I read the story, I think song entitled Believer sang by Imagine Dragons pop rock band is suitable for the story. I choose the story because I found matching lyric with that story.

My reason is, Muhammad Ali encountered many challenges which made him sick in the ring but he always rises and never give up. He also had a painful live in which black people and white people not like each other. But he continued to struggle in the pain he was experiencing.
